with regards to Ayano's reaction, I think some people really tend to be like that when it comes to the death of people who aren't close to them (even if they're family members). In my case, perhaps finding out that this certain person was murdered will rather make me feel this wanting to have 'justice' for his/her death, rather than feel sad over it because I'm not close enough to the person for me to feel that loss (same as Ayano)... Then I'll most likely cry and be filled with sadness once I see other family members of mine mourning in anguish over his/her death.

this might seem being insensitive for some people, but I guess it's all because each and every people have different emotions...

Actualy, I didn't watch Kaze no Stigma beyond episode one. Ayano seeing her comrades getting killed, and instead of feeling sad for them, she starts acting tsundere was a bit too painful for me to continue. Plus, the fireballs people throw at each other really looked stupid.

Oofuri is great~! it's actually better than Slam Dunk, H2, etc in some aspects ;) and I find it really entertaining as well~ Ren x Abe FTW =P

About Kaze no Stigma... I wonder if you've seen the later episodes (especially episode 4)? I don't know why you say it has a bad scriptwriting... o__o It might have some flaws in some part, but the Kazuma x Ayano antics are priceless! I really love this show~ I still hope you'll watch the later episodes, in the hopes that your opinion about it will change :) but of course, to each his own...

psgels: Oh man, I just assumed you'd seen them, since you've seen so much other stuff. Both are DEFINITELY recommended, about as highly as I can possibly recommend them. Especially Millennium Actress, which I still consider to be my absolute favorite movie of all time, animated or otherwise. Tokyo Godfathers, too, is quite high on my list (slightly below Paranoia Agent and Millennium Actress, but WAY above Paprika and Perfect Blue).

Matrim: it's indeed quite difficult to remember all the names after just four episodes, but I think you will recognize them once they've got an episode, dedicated to themselves. And yes, you're probably right about Gurren Lagann. :P

Nice to see I am not the only one who happens to think that Towards the Terra has been the best spring show thus far.
But why do you think Gurenn Lagann needs realism? It was anything but realistic from its very beginning. ;)
And I agree that Bokurano has enormous potential. Now if only I could actually learn the names of the dozens of characters in it...

Tom: you know, you're really making me curious to check out Satoshi Kon's movies. I do admit that I've yet to see both Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers, but thanks to you, these movies are starting to look really interesting. :)

The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters has actually been subtitled already. They showed it in DC along with Paprika, at the annual Japan Festival a few weeks ago.

And I dunno what you thought of it... but personally, I really, REALLY did not like it. It had so much potential, but it used almost none of it, creating something that was just mind-numbingly boring. Most of the people I was with fell asleep during it, and we ALL independently considered walking out on it, but were afraid that somebody else might actually be enjoying it.

But nobody was.

It's kind of odd... we watched that, Paprika, and Tokyo Godfathers in DC that day, and Tokyo Godfathers was far and away the most enjoyable, despite the fact that we'd all seen it before. It's just an amazingly good movie...

Ookiku Furikabutte is pretty good in my opinion, I miss sports anime like Princess Nine, Slam Dunk and H2 so I'm hoping this gets as good as those 3 and it has the potential. The less-than-subtle yaoi fanservice moments are a little... well yeah... apparently the series has a big BL following in Japan, no big deal though. The opening song has some oddly placed lyrics with the scenes like when the 2 main male players are holding hands and the singer yells "let's get passionate" lol

I agree Overdrive just sucks, I was hoping it would turn into some a good sports show that has some depth in the cahracters but the writing is trying too hard to please otaku.

Gah not enough sports dramas (Eyeshield 21 is an insult to football), but then again sports anime really isn't anime fans favorite genre... which is odd since there are LOTS of Japanese live-action sports dramas.

Seriously I think you should watch more subbed shows because of it you miss a lot of things, and sometimes I really have the impression that you look to much to find something truly independent and unique maybe have you forgot what anime is all about ;)

w: well, one of these reasons is probably because I often write what's on my mind, and that doesn't always make too much sense. And with the DtB-example, I indeed mistook that part. But the hitting-on part remains annoying. :P

...sometimes I wonder if you're even watching the same anime as me, to be honest (for example in DtB, it's kind of obvious he isn't bothering to protect the girls - he pretends and then gets the info out of them and the rest is debatable, which is quite different from "protecting them"), but good job on putting together the list anyway.

It's surprising that I read a blog of someone whose tastes are 80% incomprehensible to me ^^; But it's interesting that way. *goes back to lurking*

Surprisingly, I feel that despite the weaker plot in the second half of Death Note, the anime version is doing a decent job to presenting it without falling apart. It also helped that Madhouse uses some very nice camera angles/spins to create dramatic effect. I think I have better faith in Death Note pulling off a descent ending...but we shall see

And yeah, making this list always takes up a lot of work, but it's well worth it, and fun as well. :)
