I think Dennou Coil is extremely different from SEL. SEL is basically focusing on the cyberworld of the net and has much more dark undertones. It's also much more confusing and focuses on a different message than Dennou Coil does.

Serial Experiments Lain was a bit different from Dennou Coil, though, as in the fact that Dennou Coil doesn't try to play with the mind as much as SLE did. Yet.

I'm slowly getting into this show. My only problem is the fact that it reminds me of Serial Experiment Lain... But I do like how the story seems to be progressing.

Kyoko was original in the way she behaved, I think. She does remain energetic and a bit bratty, so I think that's the reason she felt annoying. It's a good thing that she didn't play the centre of the episode, so I didn't really mind.

And about the brightness, the show is indeed brighter than usual, but the videofile I downloaded was even more enthusiastic with the brightness (see screenshots). :P

Brightness: the color palette for the show is notably lacking in certain pigments. Contrast with Kyoko's flashback.

I liked the show so far, although Kyoko gets on my nerves big time. Not sure if it's the voice acting (unlikely) or just what has happened to her and her personality.
