In so few words, thats how these types of stories are written (though I will say I haven't read or witnessed anything quite like the story of Death Note in its entirety). I liked death note because it was strange and compelling for an anime, though I now realize about every month that there are new and better anime out there. Ya, I liked this anime from beginning to end. L was ok, honestly everyone's 'coolness' was overshadowed by Light being the most perfect evil villain of any series bar-none. when does good ever lose.

There was actually a whole chapter for that in the manga — Light dies in 107, and 108 is an epilogue. I was disappointed not to see it in the anime, but it’s just been announced that they’re making a special to tie up the series’ loose ends, so that’s presumably how they’re doing it. Something to look forward to.
