@psgels: Okay, I am biased as hopeless Mohiro Kitoh fangirl, but I *really* think that to say that he hates children is a wrong assumption, which sounds like an offense in my ears. The sole fact that he likes to portray children and their tragic fate (that goes for nearly all his other works - Naru Taru, Wings of Vendemiaire and his short stories) is imho one of the ways to a. describe human condition and b. what societies turns children (and people) into.
It's possible that he hates children, but if one looks closely at his work, I think the probability is very low.

Solaris, actually the Bokurano anime has been pretty faithful to the manga so far, plot-wise. Some of the stories might have changed but the end results in each story has been the same. Even the pilot order has been the same after the little switch up that moved Kako/Chizu ahead of Daichi/Nakama.

IF anything, the Bokurano anime doesn't actually diverge from the manga until ep 14. But that's mainly to buffer out the rest of the story to 24/26 episodes since there are only 5 pilots left (not including Seki/Tanaka whom i do not believe we will see pilot).

I didn't know that news indeed. But this doesn't affect my judgement, as, on the other way it enforces it more. If the director hated the manga, he just had to refuse the contract and leave it to other people who are more respectful of the mangaka's work.
I am not sayng that Bokurano is ugly or bad made for having less gore or violence than the manga. I'm saying that work (an anime) not respectful of it's paper counterpart is another thing, another show pretending to be what it's not. This is NOT Bokurano, it's another show that is called the same way bacause the director changed and forced the story to be another :(

Solaris: I'm not sure if you followed the news recently, but the reason why Bokura no has been toned down is a bit more than just "it needs to be broadcasted to a wider audience". The director has claimed that he hates the manga, and right now he's adding his own taste to it. Basically, what we have here is a manga, written by someone who hates children, being adopted by someone who loves children. Having not read the manga, I don't really care if the violence has been toned down, in comparison to the people who did read it.

If you like Bokurano, then take a look at the manga. It's far far far better than the anime.
Did you see what happened to Narutaru the other masterpiece from Mohiro Kitoh? Those manga are based on a large amount of violence and you cannot separate it from the plot as it's all built around it. The incipit of the two series is very violent as well. In Bokurano a group of little boys id deceived and forced to give away their own life for a game and in Narutaru another group of kids is blessed with the gift of powerful creatures and they use it for their own childish and stupid purpouses...
Aniway these manga were transormed and adapted into anime and now they mus meet the taste of a less mature and wide target. So there's the need to soften it. But whenever you attempt to subtract drammaticity to the show you happen to ruin it. It hapened with Narutaru and it was changed into a bad copy of pokemon and now we'll see what it will be of Bokurano.
I'm still skeptical...
...It's like to taste wine with inside and the taste fades away...

Well, for me Gurren-Lagann is still going rediculously strong and is by far the best show of spring '07, followed by SaiMono 2nd season, Bokurano, Dennou Coil, Lucky Star and Sola.

I enjoyed Death Note this month, but Towards the Terra and Claymore were also quite good. The worst thing I watched had to be Blue Dragon.

As for me, I'm in love with Romeo X Juliet, Death note, The Skull Man, and I like quite much Denou Coil, Toward the Terra and Seirei no Moribito. I found Darker than Black very promising at the beginning, but I think the characters and the storyline lack a lot of development, and it has began to bore me a little.

Claymore was such a pleasant surprise this month. The added complexity to the plot was original and intruiging. I honestly didn't see that one coming.
