Hi, I found this blog while searching for more info about Saiunkoku episodes (no fansubs have been released since season2 ep2). I wanted to say I love this story and its very heart warming and touching.

Now about Shuurei, can I make a comment about what I believe she could be: In Wikipedia, for the background of some of the characters of this anime, for Shuurei's mother, it is stated that she is the 'Rose Princess' of the Hyou family. Also in the anime, they mention the story about a rose princess who fell in love with a mortal man. I am wondering if perhaps 1 of the 8 sages was the 'Rose Princess' (though perhaps not Shuurei's mother herself, but perhaps an ancestor), and if the thought about how Shuurei recovered the moment her mother passed away (which is strange) could the anime be somehow implying that Shuurei is perhaps the descendent of 1 of the sages.

Anyway I just wanted to say I am in love with this anime series, and I hope in the end Shuurei and Ryuuki ends up together (each time I see them seperate I feel sad, especially for the emperor and worry that if Shuurei decides for another man he may end up feeling like commiting suicide.)

Interesting, I never really thought of that possibility existing. The fact that Shuurei now unconsciously houses one of these eight sages explains why she couldn't move when she saw big Riou.

> Why does Riou want Shuurei’s spirit (at least,
> I assume that that spell-circle was meant to
> separate her spirit from her body).

Call it a hunch, but big Riou previously stated to Shuurei’s father that he wanted to take back what he stole from him (Shuurei’s mother). Maybe Shuurei's mother is one of the 8 enlightened sages of colour?

Shuurei once said she was always sick when she was young but the night her mother died she got better. I remember they hinted something down the lines that maybe her mother's spirit was passed on to her. Wouldn't that explain why big Riou wants her spirit?
