I don't know how much of Da Capo you've seen but the episodes do eventually turn into very depressing romance dramas and the second season also turns into a very sad drama. The characters are stereotypes but they do end up developed at the final episodes. I will say though the reason I enjoy Da Capo is mostly for the music, especially during the dramatic episodes.
