The author of the manga is a pen name for Arakawa and a group of other people. So it is her story idea. Apparently they confirm this in a radio show about Juushin Enbu http://www.mediafactory.co.jp/animation/017/004/17496.html While I don't think Juushin Enbu is as good as Fullmetal Alchemist it's only been about 5 chapters that's hardly enough time to really judge something. The "power up" isn't so simple as it seems. At least in the manga, Taitou has no control and practically loses his mind when he is at full power.
