Well i dont like Bokurano… Toward The Terra its a 100000000x100000000000 times ever better than Bokurano.

And El Cazador its a monumental anime for me, the last girl with guns series of Bee Train! n_n

Gintama is indeed awesome. I expected Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei to win out in comedies, but they’re both awesome. Well, here’s hoping for another year of great blogging. ;)

i will start by saying that this is a nice review of the year that just finished
and about the ones that are surprised that bokura no is on the first spot they must have never read psg’s reviews because it was clear that bokura no and another 2 anime that i had in mind could have been chosen to be no 1 of the year here and there are enough other blogs,forums that picked CG or Gurren as no 1(maybe some just to please the readers) but anyway even if my top would be probably 80% different from this one i still enjoyed reading it maybe because i read this blog for so long that i became used with this “unusual taste”
while i watched quite many of the anime series that u posted i can say that i did not find code geass that disappointing,i enjoyed watching it and is probably my second favorite anime from sunrise after their masterpiece Cowboy Bebop(or maybe i don’t remember other anime they mad right now) and i am also surprised Death Note is not in the top i think the story was quite original it had interesting characters and overall even if u could find some flaws it was for me one of the best anime this year together with Seirei no Moribito,Dennou Coil,Ooedo Rocket,Baccano and Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei
and yeah project I.G was great again it’s like no one can match with their quality of animation and it seems like this year is promising too,they will release xxxholic 2nd season and Real Drive

For the music…I know El Cazador had an excellent tracks but to me Darker than Black was the most outstanding of all.
And still I’m not sure about Bokura no though, seriously…it didn’t make me happy when I was watching it, did it to you then?

Although some of your choices are peculiar i couldn’t help but agree with you about code geass and Gurren lagaan. I guess thats what attracted me to this blog in the first place. You seem to focus on series that i probably wouldnt take a first glance at but would love to watch.

Yaay for Gintama getting the best comedy! The series needs more recognition. Although the sub is still in 2006 for the most of 2007 releases. The raw is now over ep 80 and Gintama gets crazier and crazier XD (I keep on wondering how the hell it manages to bypass censorship to air on family hour - but thank god it does). As for a 2007 only show, Minami-ke is my pick (you should try it if you haven’t already), although Gintama is still far ahead.

Best ED is Ookiku Furikabutte’s 2nd ED because the song and animation fit the soul of the series (not purely because the song is good because it’s about anime ED).

Most pleasant surprise is Baccano! due to the pacing. If it’s chronological like the source novels as opposed to mish mash three-in-one as in the anime, the end will feel less epic for sure. Props to the animation team’s daring decision. As for best graphic, I personaly dislike it if characters are not in unity with the background like Seirei (characters are too simplistic for the beautiful backgrounds that they look like stickers on paintings).

Those are the ones I disagree with. Now I need to catch up with Ooedo Rocket after your hype about the final eps. Happy New Year!

I also really enjoy your blog and always find interesting things I would never think to watch. Thank you for keeping up with such great shows as Toward the Terra and others. I personally liked shows like Gurren Lagann and Code Geass, but more in a cheesy fun type of way. I don’t think for a minute Geass deserves to be in any top 10 shows of the year especially considering how badly it fell apart and changed focus towards the end.

Well, I was disappointed that Shigurui was not on the list. I thought at least it could have won the best animation award, but didn’t get it either.

Shigurui was, to me, not only the best of 2007, but possibly the best anime I have ever seen (even with the fact that the final episode didn’t resolve anything…) The thing is just a piece of art to me. I would have given it a 99/100, based on your rating system.

But other than that, nice list. The second season of Higurashi is better than the first one. And without your blog, I would have never heard of Serei no Moribito.

Great list, while I only watched some of the shows on your list, I think you picked some fine series.

The only parts where I suppose I’d disagree are best music, best op, and best ed.

Best music for me was Red Garden

Best Op was ef Tale of Memories

and Best ED was either the Tales of Symphonia ending song or FLAG’s ending (don’t know if the show was out in 2007, it was the year I watched it)

I like your blog, you have different taste (as you mentioned yourself) but that is what keeps me coming back here, so I can discover new anime that are never mentioned in other blogs such as Dennou Coil, Les Miserables, Emily, Bokurano,etc… and turn out to be quite awesome =)

A very good, informative and unique summary, I have to say.

Now, I haven’t finished or even seen the majority of the series on this list, including those that sadly remain sub-less, so I’m in no position to make lengthy and meaty comments.

Still, this is something that I’ll keep in mind, as I look forward to “new” series in the coming months and possibly years. Whether I like them or not, at least they’ll probably be interesting picks.

And like kanami, I wish there were more blogs like this one. Even if I sometimes (or many times, actually? I just don’t really comment much, if at all…) happen to disagree with the ideas and opinions psgels provides, they’re still a good read and keep me coming back. Oh, and btw, Happy New Year 2008.

The problem with having read the Bokurano manga is that it makes watching the anime a lot harder. Instead of just sitting back and enjoying or hating it, a small part of my mind keeps on going “but it wasn’t done like THAT in the maaaaaaaanga….”. Nevertheless, it’s still a brilliant story.

I love your blog because it focuses on lesser anime (if I wanted people to be telling me to watch stuff like Negima!… well…), and looks actually for plot and character development. I’ve seen so many blogs where people watch stuff and rate it high just because they think one of the characters is ‘cute’ or ‘hot’ and that’s just… not exactly what I was looking for in an anime review. Kind of wanted more besides how babetastic the females characters are. Because not all female anime fans are lesbians.

Obviously, there are stuff that you have that I have slight disagreements with, but that’s more of a matter of taste, and each to their own, because getting me to watch Ooedo Rocket and Dennou Coil is something I can never thank you enough for.

Great post. It’s really funny to see how different this list is from, like, the other 90% of the anime blogs. Some people (like that antispiral dude) may think psgels is just trying to look all smart and cool watching all those “obscure” shows. But he really isn’t some kind of elitist, impositive blogger that thinks whoever has different tastes than him must be an idiot: I think he has proved to be very repectful, and he (almost) always tries to give a good reasoning of why he thinks something is great or sucks.

Yeah, things like Gurren Lagann (that has been in almost all list as the best anime of ‘07) might have been a funny ride, but in terms of plot, and sometimes even *gasp* animation, I can see why psgels chose those series to be much more better than GL.

I don’t think I can totally agree with this list: I would have put Dennou Coil higger in this list (at least, over Baccano), some stuff like Les Miserables was never subbed, so I can’t say anything, and I just can’t get myself to see more of Bokura no besides the first episodes (I think it makes some stuff done in the manga a lot more softer and less poignant). I also don’t agree with A LOT of things he has said. But… damn, I still keep thinking that we need less moe-focused-blogs and more blogs like this.

Great job, psgels, I hope we can see more of you in 2008 :D

Not been a bad year all in all, 2006 was very good and I don’t think it’s been topped this year but still some outstanding series. It’s also pretty much been the first year that I’ve watched shows as they come out week by week instead of just looking for complete series and watching them in 3/4 episode chunks.

I’d also like to say that it was a great year for this blog, it’s certainly grown and you got an award from some people who I admittedly have never heard of before. drinks all round!

I agree with all your summary except for Code Geass, I totally loved this anime and can’t wait for the second season . I found the storytelling was really well - built and I was far from being desappointed when I watched it.
I enjoyed it from the beginning till the end.
