Saiunkoku Monogatari - 78

What a wonderful episode to close off the second series! This was hands down, the best episode ever since Shuurei got back from the Sa-clan. Thank you, Madhouse, for not leaving a bad taste at the end, while we have to wait who knows how many years for season three. The end of the episode closed off quite a few storylines, and yet it hinted that there’s still so much more to come. I really hope that the creators will realize this, and haven’t planned to end this series here.
But still, finally this series is over. For the past two years, it’s been my top-source of google-hits and out of all the series I’ve blogged, Saiunkoku Monogatari has received by far the most page-views, even comparing this to Death Note and Claymore. No other series also has as many posts as this one, although I guess that Jigoku Shoujo and Higurashi will come quite close when their third season finishes. Really, it’s sad to see this series gone now. I’ll put it on finished for now, until we get some real confirmations that a third season is under production.
It was also a delight to see Kouyuu and Shuuei back together. The two of them form such a great team with their banter. Suou also seems to have moved his family to the countryside, while he carries out some kind of mission for Kouki. We also learn that Anju is none other than Kouki’s ally. But the best part of the episode was of course seeing Ryuuki and Shuurei back together. It draws quite a parallel with episode 39 of the first season, which also ended with a similar series, but this time, Ryuuki’s development made that scene so different. Back then, he was just a weak little coward, screaming for Shuurei’s affection, but now he really seems to have accepted his task as an emperor. He’s now not just trying to become a good emperor because of Shuurei, and that’s what he realized when he was in the Ran-province.
Now, if you excuse me, I have to go write a review that does this series justice. ^^;

hi! thanks for the review!
There must be a season 3! the story is to long to end only at season 2, don’t you agree?

Lucy: well, the thing is: I agree, you agree, but the question remains whether the producers agree. Madhouse has been known for just abandoning its adaptations in the middle of their runs.

Madhouse we love Saiunkoku Monogatari series 1 and 2 and passionately desire a 3rd series so please provide us with a third series!!!
I really have a deep affection for all of the characters. Love them all! and especially am waiting holding my breath waiting for the development- let there be definite development between Ryukki and Shureei. I have seen Ryukki lonely for a long time and want to see his onesided omoi answered- FINALLY. Madhouse we’ll be waiting!

i do wish to see Ryuuki and Shuurei together. They seemed to by such perfect couple. I hope that Shuurei would be able to do her job as a government official and marry Ryuuki at the same time. Please continue the story with the third season. I’m awaiting for it. thanks.

I completely agree a third season is needed! Shuurei, as the main character, still doesn’t know that Seiran is Ryuuki’s brother, or that her dad is the black wolf, or that the civil affairs guy (who raised Kouyuu - with the fan) is her uncle - and also Sa Sakujun, is he alive or not?! Too many unanswered questions…
I want to get hold of the ‘light novels’ as Wiki calls them, but I can’t find them anywhere online - maybe not available in England?

No! I finished watching both seasons in under three days, it can’t be done! I refuse to believe that it won’t continue. It’s so good and it’s only partway finished there are too many loose ends. I wish that the producers would hurry with the next season; I would really love to see what happens.
Comment by Harmonyrose — June 20, 2009 @ 7:49
Jeez…. I just finished the second season and I’m still longing for more…. There’s still so much that needs to be solved… Not only Ryuuki und Shuurei… what about Seiran’s feelings, the mysterious Hyou Clan or Eigetsu und Kourin? Just to name a few. Please, I’m begging for a third season, it just has to be done, please

I don’t think the novel has been completed.
The can’t continue the series if the novel’s not completed.
Comment by Peace_ — September 23, 2009 @ 14:08
OMG….
I don’t want the story to be ended like this>_

This anime has cost me 2 tissue boxes. The disease episode (28 i think 2nd series) and some more got me weeping. I began to appreciate what life is all about and the importance of company (friends, love companion), trust and the fruits of hard work.
Shuurei’s personality has affected me deeply in real life. I wish I can be like her.
Season 3 is a must. Lets all write to the producers abt it :P
