Gintama is indeed the funniest! I agree.. Skip Beat is a distant second..

As for my top pick in 2008, I will choose Soul Eater.

Happy New Year :)

I'm missing an honorable mention of Natsume Yujinchou in the slice-of-life category, but other than that this is an interesting list. I wish Porfy had been translated, since I love Saiunkoku Monogatari and have loved other WMT series and I love character development.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Casshern Sins or Birdy Decode in terms of action. Both have shown some superb fight scenes, probably the best fights this year in terms of intensity and animation quality.

I'm really not so impressed with Michiko to Hatchin personally. It looks great, watches pretty good, but the characters just feels a bit hollow even with all the personalities they have. It has the old 'SERIOUS BUSINESS' slapped onto them and they call it character development.

Casshern to me is THE underdog story of 2008, though Kaiba and Himitsu fit the bill. Christ, ALL of them are Madhouse shows. Crazy.

As for Gunslinger Girls, I thought it was pretty good too.

As for Xam'd, I think the plot is a bit too anemic and inconsistent, though again, it looks beautiful and watches nicely like Michiko to Hatchin.

And I guess I didn't expect any differently, but for me, Code Geass R2 and Macross Frontier belongs in a top 10. I know this blog is a tad bit biased against it though.

I'm so glad Shion made it 3 times on this list! Shion no Ou definitely deserved the top spot of 2008!

Interesting choices, which is half the reason I follow this blog, and just as well, I can't really comment about most of these shows until they've been watched, but that's just me.

Still, very nice to see Bounen no Xamdou (which would be a little higher on my personal list, but see above), Casshern Sins (this is how you should do an episodic show) and Kaiba (finally getting around to finishing) getting some well-deserved recognition.

Have a Happy New Year.

There is one thing i don't understand and i don't think you've done this last year too,why put ongoing anime in this top? not Gintama,of course, but anime that still have almost half of their episodes still to be released in 2009,you could have done the same last year with Ghost Hound but you put it in this year's list, anyway i guess maybe it is just me,but i cannot think of giving an award to an anime that i have not completed and still has a long way to go.

back to the top i kinda expected the toip 3 would look like this, but Shion no Ou deserves the 1st place and maybe this will make more people watch it,also regarding the top 10 if Amatsuki does not get a sequel then i really don't think it deserves this place but i hope for a sequel to be released too and i want it quite soon :D

thanks for the hard work you put in making this 2008 summary and Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Hope you choose more romance anime to review in 2009 ^^

I knew that Kaiba and Shion no Ou would be your No.1 and No.2, and it's pretty much the same for me, with Natsume Yuujinchou, Ghost Hound and Michiko e Hatchin filling up my top 5. But I'm pleasantly surprised to see Vanilla as your fav supporting character.

I'll be spending the beginning of 2009, catching up on 2008 anime. xD

2008 may not produced alot of amazing anime but it has Kaiba.

To me, Kaiba is the type of quality anime you don't get to see every year.

So Kaiba alone redeemed 2008 for me.

I personally think 2008 was a really bad year.
cuz it's hard for me to list even 5 good series

Real Drive
Antique Bakery
Amatsuki
Shikabane hime
Shigofumi or Kurenai

I only hope that year of 2009 will be better....
April line-up looks quite good by the way.

Thanks for the posting!
Happy New Years Too, psgels!
