I recommend reading them as they are part of a great translation (I own the Japanese). And I also feel this is my favorite anime this season. A sequel would be great. And who would want to drop a novel series so long with 26 episodes? I mean, Juuni Kokuki (Twelve Kingdoms) is an epic 6-volume fantasy series (so far), but that has 45 episodes. And not all the novels are covered...! They have to do more for Guin Saga, for sure. And I would say the Japanese Guin Saga novels are popular and well-known in Japan, especially with the 20-30 age group (yes, adults still watch the anime in Japan). ^^ This is our one hope of a sequel so far... The first 5 novels (and a short side-story manga series) are out in english. I recommend reading them as they are part of a great translation (I own the Japanese).

She left the novels unfinished at volume 126. Yes, volume 126. This anime should have been 110 episodes like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, because I read the first few books and they really really COMPRESSED 5 novels in the first 9 episodes. As in the novels writer? No way. I just caught up with Guin Saga and something about it will keep me watching it untill the end even though I know this could have been done so much better. Background art and all that includes light looks great, but the other animation and storytelling is a little...well boggy. Only 26? What a shame. It's just because there aren't enough fanarts and views on youtube etc that a show as great as this might be dropped? Honestly now that we know the author is dead and that the ending of the story can't really be original, but that it's the longest running fantasy novel in history, I mean wth(who) would want to see the show stop. Of course the animation is not at the best level but the story is so interesting! This series is definitely my favorite in this whole period. Only 26? What a shame. Remus is just as sneaky and mysterious as ever. If not more. He also seems to be planning world domination, judging from the dialogue between him and Guin at the end. :P It wasn't Linda who made the ball of light burst open the mountain. It was either awakening before the came to the island or because they came there and disturbed it. They also have no idea what that being was. Guin and Remus talked about it at the end of the episode and Remus seem to think that it's some kind of transportation device that can bring you to other worlds, and that Guin also was brought to their world with a similar device. Remus seem to think that unlocking the keys to how to control these devices would somehow be able to grant him great powers that would make him able rule the world. He also seem to think that a similar device is hidden somewhere in Nosferus, since there are such strange beasts there. There was also some foreshadowing with early in the episode when Remus said that he had a feeling that he was destined to lead an army against Isthvan. also, I think the monster on the island was the servant of whatever resided in that ball of light.
