Which Autumn Series do you want me to blog?
Now that it’s September again, I’d like to return to a yearly tradition for this blog in the form of a little contest I hold every year. It basically consists out of a poll of the series that are going to be airing in the upcoming fall season, and me blogging whatever series that received the most votes. In the past, this lead me to blog Claymore, Gundam 00 and Tytania.
Anyway, here are some concrete rules:
- To make a valid vote, drop a comment leaving your selection. You can select up to two series from the upcoming Autumn season.
- The anime with the most amount of votes in the end will be blogged for at least 12 or 13 episodes (in the very unlikely event that the series in question becomes way too much of a chore to cover).
- Here is a list with the shows that are scheduled to air. (At least, that’s what I assume. Notify me if it isn’t complete).
- No direct sequels; that’s just boring and predictable.
- Apart from that, I accept any series with an airdate between September 20th and November 11th.
- Please refrain from spoiling synopsises or staff lists. I’m still trying to enter the Autumn Season with as little information as possible about the upcoming shows, and I’d like to keep it that way.
- The poll will end at September 30, 23:59 GMT. All votes that arrive after that will be ignored.
Here are the current scores:
Kimi ni Todoke - 44
Romance of the Three Kingdoms - 36
Kobato - 34
Kuuchuu Buranko - 31
Winter Sonata - 25
Letter Bee - 23
Armed Librarians: Book of Bantora - 18
A Certain Scientific Railgun - 14
Seiken no Blacksmith - 11
Fairy Tail - 11
Jungle Emperor Leo - 8
Darker than Black - 8
Sasameki Koto - 7
Blue Literature - 7
Nyankoi - 6
Kampfer - 3
Seitokai no Ichizon - 2
Ai no Kusabi - 2
Yumeiro Patissiere - 1
Sora no Otoshimono - 1
Note that with comments that selected three series, I just picked the first two. The people who voted for Darker than Black II and ignored the “No Sequels”-rule can of course always change their votes.
A Second Note: it just turns out that Jungle Emperor Leo isn’t going to be a TV-series at all, but instead just a TV-Special. Those who voted for it can of course change their votes.

I’ve got some expectations for Kuuchuu Buranko and Seiken no Blacksmith, hope to see you blogging them
Comment by alex14n — September 1, 2009 @ 7:47
I have a sinking suspicion that you’ll cover Kuuchuu Buranko and Kimi ni Todoke w/o us telling you to vote for it.
So my vote is for Kobato.
Comment by tekky99 — September 1, 2009 @ 8:06
Another vote for Kuchu Buranko (Trapeze)
Comment by AlexS — September 1, 2009 @ 8:17
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun), and Kobato.
I’m really looking forward to this season. ^^
Comment by Raph — September 1, 2009 @ 8:18
Leave Darker than Black II alone please. You always say ugly, nasty, rude, annoying things about that series so I would greatly appreciate if you cold leave it alone :)
Thanks!

Darker than Black and LEtter Bee —
@offtopic… hello web admins, It’s a bit nostalgic opening this topic and I think it’s too much for me too ask this. But Can I be included in your blogroll? My blog http://animemmorpgs.blogspot.com has already added you in their list of blogs. I hope that I can make it too in your list. I know I’m just a starter but can you please grant my request? My blog is about anime gaming specializing in mmorpgs. I hope I can make it Thank you very much
Comment by Quick Star — September 1, 2009 @ 8:27
If I could vote for Queen’s Blade 2 I would :-P (No direct sequels BOOOO!) It would be funny just to read your thoughts on it, bad or good.
Seriously though, I choose
- Trapeze
- Armed Librarians: Book of Bantora. (Tatakau Shisho)
Comment by KamikazeSim — September 1, 2009 @ 8:35
Isn’t DtB already ineligible?
Kobato and Kimi ni Todoke.
Trapeze is going to be either a flop, total win or the next adaptation gone anyway.
Comment by senerikfred — September 1, 2009 @ 8:36
That’s a nice traditon you keep. I personally would like to vote for “Romance of the Three Kindom”, because it’s partly produced by a Chinese production, and mostly drawed by Chinese staff except the story board. I just finished watching it on TV. Still a lot of catch up to do but quite a surprise. It’s a 52 episode series. Since there is just too much stuff to cover so the plot has skipped a lot. But this anime still manages to pull off a complete story. It’s quite different from the usual Japanese anime. And since souten no kouro just aired in summer, it might be interesting to compare how different they are.
Still, hoping people to vote for “Romance of the Three Kindom” is not realistic. So my comment above is no more than suggesting it’s worth watching. And now to be more realistic here, my votes will go to Letter Bee and Seitokai no Ichizon.
Comment by astrocurrent — September 1, 2009 @ 8:42
No brainer - Darker than Black :P
Comment by Perrin4869 — September 1, 2009 @ 9:11
I don’t feel like voting strategically.. So I’ll go with romance of the three kingdoms and trapeze.
Comment by Tomtom — September 1, 2009 @ 9:24
lol @ all the people ignoring the “No direct sequels; that’s just boring and predictable.”
Can I vote against an anime? I vote against you blogging Darker Than Black if that’s possible.
Comment by tealovertoma — September 1, 2009 @ 9:30
Kobato and Jungle Emperor Leo please! (Leo is a remake, not a sequel or continuation so I hope it still counts. :3)
Comment by Ebod — September 1, 2009 @ 9:41
Ooops, didn’t notice the sequels rule… Well, I still hope you blog DtB (although I’m starting to worry about the integrity of the story), but if I have to choose from the other shows, I choose Winter Sonata and Letter Bee
Comment by Perrin4869 — September 1, 2009 @ 9:43
I vote Jungle Emperor Leo, hopefully the charm and impact of the original is left in
Winter Sonata, the soap opera remake which was actually pretty entertaining compared to a load of trash that Korean TV tends to be.
Inuyasha Final Act… just because?
Comment by Chris — September 1, 2009 @ 9:48
Kimi ni Todoke also, it’s a heartfelt and realistic high school love story, kind of a similar feel to Bokura ga Ito
Comment by Chris — September 1, 2009 @ 9:52
i’ll vote for kuuchu buranko and kimi ni todoke
these are the shows that i most certainly gonna keep an eye on…
Comment by arknot — September 1, 2009 @ 10:02
Most of them are sequels! D:
1) Kobato
2) Kimi no Todoke
And if you’re gonna break or bend the rules later…
3) Darker Than Black s2 xD
Comment by ryvrdrgn14 — September 1, 2009 @ 10:04
Kuchu Buranko gets another vote!
Comment by Zizhou — September 1, 2009 @ 10:18
I’m not really looking forward to any series, but some look interesting. My vote goes to Winter Sonata and Kobata.
Comment by Elthyra — September 1, 2009 @ 10:18
Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Trapeze. There isn’t a lot to be hopeful about when looking at the selection.
Comment by m — September 1, 2009 @ 10:23
no sequels eh, Ill have to vote for Sacred Blacksmith, jrpg vibe and all
Comment by Longhaul — September 1, 2009 @ 10:28
- Fairy Tail
- To Aru Kagaku no Choudenjibou
Comment by Askaer — September 1, 2009 @ 10:30
Winter Sonata or whatever it was called. It looks mature and interesting. ^^
Comment by Gottis — September 1, 2009 @ 10:30
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu! Hahaha, no.
Really, my votes are for Trapeze and Kimi no Todoke.
Comment by Pafiume — September 1, 2009 @ 10:34
Jungle Emperor Leo seems interesting
and if you go for a sequel.. Darker than black 2 ;)
Comment by Sywen — September 1, 2009 @ 10:43
1. Kimi ni Todoke (despite the fact that it’s classic shoujo, the manga somehow manages to shine. Plus its Production I.G. =D)
2. Winter Sonata (the Korean version was a classic, it may turn out to be a little bit too exaggerated and melodramatic, but fingers crossed)
Comment by arirang — September 1, 2009 @ 10:51
I would say Armed librarians and Jungle emperor Leo, they seem quite good.
Comment by windy — September 1, 2009 @ 10:54
Trapeze but since it is by the same team who did Mononoke I figure you would want to blog it anyways. :)
Comment by Kim — September 1, 2009 @ 12:05
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Kämpfer
Actually, I am more interested in a number of the “direct sequels”, but you will probably blog some of them anyway since you blogged their respective first seasons.
Comment by Bane — September 1, 2009 @ 12:13
I’d rather be ebil and vote for two series Psgels would never blog if not under torture and great pain:
Railgun and Fairy Tail.
As for the sequel rule, you can’t really consider Railgun a sequel but Index’s spinoff .
So, am i EBIL enough? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHHAHAHAH!!
Comment by Solaris — September 1, 2009 @ 12:20
Armed Librarians: Book of Bantora;
Trapeze
Comment by Utena — September 1, 2009 @ 12:32
i think you should blog trapeze
Comment by sfkjklsd — September 1, 2009 @ 12:34
I would very much enjoy it if you would blog Darker than Black’s (fuligin?) second season. The first season was excellent by all standards, and the second one appears to be quite promising as well - if one can reliably judge from the team involved.
Comment by cad — September 1, 2009 @ 12:35
I hope to see Kobato blogged =D It seems like a very popular manga with the CLAMP fans, and the animation looks amazing.
Comment by Neko-chan — September 1, 2009 @ 12:39
My vote goes clearly to Winter Sonata, even if I think, you would pick that anyway. :)
Comment by Taxy — September 1, 2009 @ 12:41
Sorry - after reviewing that list again, I’d have to change my vote to Jungle Emperor Leo, with Romance of the Three Kingdoms a close second. It’s an adaptation of a charming old story, and one that I grew up with. Reminiscent of Disney’s The Lion King, to be sure, although I do believe this series is actually much older than that.
Since I know you occasionally take to these kinds of anime - that is, the less known and unconventional ones - I would enjoy it if you’d at least give it a try for a few episodes. :)
Comment by cad — September 1, 2009 @ 12:47
I am voting Nyankoi!
I know it isn’t going to win, but it doesn’t seem so bad.
Comment by Vangui — September 1, 2009 @ 12:48
Definately Kobato and if you want Fairy Tail
Comment by shh227 — September 1, 2009 @ 12:50

2. railgun
3. Fairy Tail
Comment by Liezl — September 1, 2009 @ 12:58
Darker than Black if you could/want to, but if not- Winter Sonata and Letter Bee please.
I would say Fairy Tale, but I’m pretty sure all the other bloggers are gonna do that. Same with Darker than Black.
Comment by Snowolf — September 1, 2009 @ 13:16
Winter Sonata, it looks like something that could have tons of potential!
Comment by Riya — September 1, 2009 @ 13:26

also : Kobato,Railgun,Kimi no Todoke

Comment by marcinek — September 1, 2009 @ 13:32
Hmm I’d like to see you Blog Fairy Tail and Darker than Black II
didn’t realise Inuyasha would be finished in Anime, wasn’t much of a fan of the Manga
Comment by Belzera — September 1, 2009 @ 13:35
sorry didn’t notice the rule about sequels and for the double post -_-’
I’ll vote for Romance of the Three Kingdoms instead of DArker than black II
Comment by Belzera — September 1, 2009 @ 13:42
My vote goes to Letter Bee.
Comment by Ialda — September 1, 2009 @ 13:46
1) Kimi no Todoke
2) Darker Than Black
Comment by Tuuli — September 1, 2009 @ 13:54
So it’s this season the Sasameki Koto anime airs? Hrrm.
Actually kind of hard to pick this season. Lots of things look okay/good but nothing that really stands out.
Letter Bee and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I guess.
Comment by Autonomous Monster — September 1, 2009 @ 14:00
Looks like a rather dull season to me. Then again, maybe I’m just being picky. REALLY PICKY.
Kimi ni Todoke
Jungle Emperor Leo
Comment by BlueYoshi — September 1, 2009 @ 14:11
Fairy Tale! Dunno about any other, just read the manga so it might be interesting;P
Comment by Ze Dude — September 1, 2009 @ 14:29
I agree with BlueYoshi, looking at that list there isnt a single one Im curious about watching, except Darker than black 2 because the 1st one was awesome
And well, Sasameki Koto might be a nice yuri, those are always welcome
I just hope theres a good “serious plot” anime, in the style of phantom, but Ill end up checking them all anyway, because the descriptions are too vague
Comment by Frost — September 1, 2009 @ 14:39
1. Winter Sonata
2. Kobato
Yet I am sure you would block this two even if there weren’t any polls ^^
The 3th woukd have been Sasameki Koto since you blocked Aoi Hana an stuff and besides that I am locking forward to this series.
On the other side, I would be pretty interessted to see you blogging a bad show since I like your comments when you are pointing out what a show is lacking of or what could have been done better.
Comment by Dr. Pest — September 1, 2009 @ 15:05
My vote will go to Book of Bantorra and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

Winter Sonata

Kimi ni Todoke
Comment by Polaryzed — September 1, 2009 @ 15:42
Try out Winter Sonata and Letter Bee.These two are my favs from what I’ve seen of the original material,so they should be good if adapted correctly ^_^
Comment by c160 — September 1, 2009 @ 15:42
Why so many votes for Kuuchuu Buranko??
My vote is for Kämpfer, do you know the piece of staff it has? Marina Inoue, Nana Mizuki, Yui Horie, Yukari Tamura, I am very excited about this anime!
My second vote goes for Armed Librarians. And if I can have a third, it will be Sasameki Koto
Comment by Tlacuache — September 1, 2009 @ 15:47
My votes are for
1) Kimi ni Todoke
2) Sasameki Koto
I’m intersted to see how they adapt Kimi ni Todoke and in the manga world Sasameki Koto is a direct competitor of Aoi Hana.
Aside from these to I might just take this season to finish some show I put off.

you could always start blogging Erin, too ;D
Comment by juu — September 1, 2009 @ 16:43
@Tlacuache
Kuuchuu Buranko is by the Mononoke staff and its premise is a carte blanche to pull out all the mind fuckery stops.
There are only two possibilities here; either it is awesome or it is SUPER AWESOME.
Sasamaki Koto… I read the manga last night, and it’s YET ANOTHER “will they won’t they” schoolgirl lesbians story. I mean, the character writing is okay and there was the occasional joke that got a titter out of me but something’s wrong when I start wishing they’d break out the normal romance cliches to break up the monotony.

First of all, you people just pulled off what I thought to be impossible: within one day this post managed to gather more comments than it did in a whole month when I ran this contest last year, and I already thought that this site was pretty active back then. I’m not sure what caused this, but thanks a lot for all these replies. :)
Anyway, I’m not going to change the no sequels rule. I may omit it next year, but changing it at this point is just going to be chaotic.
Cicero: you can reach me at psgels at yahoo dot com, both for e-mail and msn.
Schmitt: nice try, but I only counted your double vote once. ;)
Solaris: raw ranking?
Quickstar: unfortunately, I stopped taking blogroll requests, simply because there are just too many such requests of people who just blog one month and then get bored. Right now, I only update my blogrole when I don’t feel lazy and find a blog that I like a lot.
Kabli: really? Sure, I didn’t like it when it started at first, but later on I raved about it, aside from its rushed ending. Besides, does it annoy you that much when people talk comment negatively on it?
Comment by psgels — September 1, 2009 @ 23:31
Kobato.!!!
I would love to see you blog a CLAMP series! ^^
& Kimi no Todoke.
Comment by lialiakicks — September 1, 2009 @ 23:38
Hmm i see some great potential this fall, like Kobato from clamp and yet another yuri anime…lol not that im complaining : )
anyway two votes huh….ok here it is
1.) Kobato
2.) Kimi no Todoke
I really like clamp anime so im rooting for kobato as my first choice. also i just read the manga for kimi no todoke and i was impressed by the manga and thus will be rooting for the anime.
Although if i had a third choice, it would be sasameki koto cause aoi hana was a really good yuri series and i hope it can live up to my expectations.
So looks like it would be a romance anime fall for me…sigh, hope there wouldnt be bad breakups, that would be depressing
Comment by AnimaticallyInsane — September 2, 2009 @ 0:45
Three Kingdoms because that other commenter’s arguments are compelling; Kobato because I’m curious about it being one of the only CLAMP manga I haven’t yet read and you’ll probably blog the others I find interesting anyway.
Comment by Etrangere — September 2, 2009 @ 0:45
I would choose Kimi ni Todoke and Kobato myself:)
Comment by sakuraember — September 2, 2009 @ 0:52
Kobato.
And by the way, shouldn’t A Certain Scientific Railgun be considered a sequel?
Comment by Steelman — September 2, 2009 @ 1:43
Hmmm at first appearance it seems this years fall season wont be as good as last years. But you can never tell with these synopsises sometimes. In the past some great shows have had some crap synopsises, so im hoping we will have at least 1 or 2 good new shows.
Well here are my 2 picks anyway:
-Kimi no Todoke
& ummmmm
-Nyan Koi
Comment by Loz — September 2, 2009 @ 3:15
Huh, that’s neat, letting the people who read your blog decide.
In any case, I’ll vote Winter Sonata (you should definitely pick that one) and Kobato. Or Letter Bee. But definitely Winter Sonata.
I read the first few chapters of Kimi ni Todoke (don’t worry, I won’t spoil the plot or anything), and it really felt like a typical shoujo/romantic comedy manga that was way too repetitive in, well, pretty much everything. So, even though my opinion probably doesn’t matter much, please don’t blog Kimi ni Todoke.
Comment by hellomoto — September 2, 2009 @ 3:26
Kobato.

Comment by Askaer — September 2, 2009 @ 11:51
Steelman: I have been told that it’s a spin-off, rather than a direct sequel. Do correct me if I’m wrong, though.
Askaer: I’m not sure, but apparently it is what people want me to blog. :P
Comment by psgels — September 2, 2009 @ 12:04
- Letter Bee (I’ve started reading the manga, and it’s a shonen with a good dark but poetic atmosphere)
Comment by Immelman — September 2, 2009 @ 12:18
Railgun is Index’s spinoff, not a sequel. Some Index chars will appear, but the main char here is Misaka Mikoto.
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=rel&aid=6460
Comment by Solaris — September 2, 2009 @ 12:24
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is more of a spinoff with Misaka being the lead character. Check wikipedia entry for To Aru Majutsu no Index. I’m pretty sure that both Touma and Index won’t be appearing in the series. If they do, it’ll be a cameo. Have you finished Index psgels? I suggest u watch it first before watching Railgun, and of course make a review for it.

That’s all I’m excited about, so second vote to kimi no todoke.
Comment by Anna — September 2, 2009 @ 16:37
I would like to see you blog Letter Bee, and maybe Armed Librarians as well.
Comment by Denizen — September 2, 2009 @ 16:48
Seiken no Blacksmith
Come on, It’s Manglobe.
Comment by uebo7 — September 2, 2009 @ 18:32
I would like to see the series Armed Librarians and Kimi no Todoke blogged. I like Production I.G. works a lot, so KnT is something I am looking forward to. I love libraries, so my first choice is more of a personal bias than anything to do with the story or the plot.
It’s a pity we cant vote for sequels. I know they can be “boring” but Darker than Black was an awesome series and is the one I am anticipating the most. I would have pushed and pushed and pushed for this one, but Im guessing the subs will be picking this series up sooner than later :)
Comment by VSky — September 2, 2009 @ 18:54
VSky: That’s not what I meant by “boring”. The reason why I added the “no sequels”-rule was to prevent everyone to just vote for their favourite series, and that IMO is just boring with contests like these. It takes away all the competition for the new series.
Comment by psgels — September 2, 2009 @ 18:58
Totally Kimi ni Todoke. :)
Comment by ebonyskies — September 2, 2009 @ 19:21

If it isn’t too late to vote, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Armed Librarians. There are other things that look good too, but I think these two should get some more consideration C:

And I’m curious, psgels, about the anime points at this time? :D

Snowolf: what exactly do you mean by “anime points”?
Comment by psgels — September 6, 2009 @ 19:12
I’d like to chance one of my votes from “Jungle Emperor Leo” to “Kuuchuu Buranko” please!
Comment by Ebod — September 6, 2009 @ 19:40
Since Jungle Emperor Leo turned out to be a TV special, I’ll give that vote to Kuuchuu Buranko.
Comment by Jazzy200 — September 7, 2009 @ 23:23
If possible, please blog kemono no souja. The subs are remarkably inconsistant and slow so I would like to be able to read a summary of each episode when it comes out. Moreover, I think the plot is really just starting to pick up!
Comment by Khan — September 8, 2009 @ 2:49
Also my vote is for kimi ni todoke :D I just hope they don’t mess it up like Special A.

Vote:
1)Romance of the Three Kingdoms
2)Armed Librarians: Book of Bantora
Comment by Beeetbubble — September 8, 2009 @ 23:19
A vote for Kobato and Kimi ni Todoke. I heard CLAMP will be writing the scripts for the Kobato anime, so i’m sure that it will be harder for the animation studio to screw up the story, and I think Kimi ni Todoke sounds like it could turn out a nice shoujo anime adaption (with all the horribly bad ones in recent years, we NEED a good one)
Comment by P-chan — September 9, 2009 @ 1:00
@psgels: sorry, I meant to say the number of “votes” the animes have gained at this time and which one is winning so far. :D
Comment by Snowolf — September 9, 2009 @ 1:38
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Comment by Blue — September 9, 2009 @ 4:05
Hum..I’m really not sure which series to vote for cos I don’t know too much about any of them except for Railgun. Which would I watch which would be interesting enough to raise discussion? I liked the original Index but it didn’t really have any mysteries or sticking points of great weight that would make me seek clarification. If anything, I wish you were blogging Bakemonogatari - I have plenty of questions about lingering little quirks and mysteries in it. Eg. In Mayoi Snail Part 2 - did Hanegawa know Tsunade? I got the impression that she lied when she said she didn’t know her. But why lie?
Comment by meow — September 9, 2009 @ 6:28

Well I’m looking forward to Kimi no Todoke and Winter Sonata, if only because I love KnT’s manga.. I guess that makes me really biased. Well, blog what you want to blog, I enjoy reading your reviews.

It is looking a bit hmm whats the word, missing a few genre. Nothing catches my eye, but i will vote

The Romance of Three Kingdoms
Blue Literature

2)Trapeze/Kuchu (this one more for the studio making it and the NoitaminA slot than the actual bits of plot… it could be either good or bad)

I just read your posts on Aoi Hana. If you liked that series I’d suggest blogging Sasameki Koto. It’s a bit more on the humorous side. But the feelings it evokes are just about as genuine as Aoi Hana’s. (In my humble opinion.)

I’m interested in Fairy Tail as well, but i’m sure there will be plenty of people blogging that.

I don’t understand these results xD
Why is Blue Literature not have more votes?
People should get some better tastes :P
Just kidding. I’m looking forward to many of these titles, but I’m really hoping Blue Literature will be good.
I can’t believe Ai no Kusabi is on this list xD I didn’t even know it had a release date.

I would go for 2 titles only as secure quality:
Fairy Tail: The most powerful series of the comming season, the japanese fanbase for the manga is huge and it is ranked in top 8 I think right now as for sales.
Seiken No Blacksmith: I was really pleased by the soundtrack on the promo video, the songs sounded nice. It reminds me of the wonderful Guin Saga maybe by the kind of feeling im predicting for it. I’m expecting a lot of it.
The shows I would NOT like blogged would be: Jungle Emperor Leo, as I believe and clain in the name of 99% people here: nobody is a 5 year love-caring toddler d/ling anime subs via torrent?
Anyways wonderful you decided to rank Guin Saga in the top list as it really deserved it. Oh and keep up the blog, its best western blog so far.
