Some Quick First Impressions: Heart Catch Precure

Heart Catch Precure

Short Synopsis: Our lead character is the umpth incarnation of the legendary mahou shoujo.
Holy crap! Pretty Cure has always been a franchise of cheap mahou shoujo series; that’s why I initially dismissed this series. But oh my god. This episode was just awesome: it was everything a mahou shoujo should be! Just one look at that opening scene should tell enough: the utterly gorgeous character-designs, the animation, the music and the tension. Everything was just wonderfully done in this episode. The humour was really funny and adorable. But the best part were the facial expressions: just look at how many different and expressive emotions they managed to convey in just one episode! Seriously, this episode took me by an utter surprise. The question now is: does it also have a good plan for the next 49 episodes. Precure has been… notorious for its repetition, however if it’s really the intention of the creators to finally come up with a good series, then I’m in!
OP: Fun and catchy.
ED: The ugliest part of this show.
Potential: 80%

  1. Your love of the character designs may stem from the fact that they were done by Yoshihiko Umakoshi, the same man who designed the characters of Casshern Sins.

  2. This version of Pretty Cure has some staff who were involved with Ojamajo Doremi. I wonder if it’s gonna go down the Doremi path? I just started downloading this and I’ll watch it later.

  10. No wonder why I do not reject this generation. The character design is the one who draws Ojamajo Doremi and Casshern Sins! One reason that I love Ojamajo Doremi is that the characters are very adorable and have large variety of lovely facial expressions. I never have any interest on Pretty Cure series. Come on psgel, my decision on watching this show lies on you!

  11. Oh, I was already interested in it since some of the staff is the same as in Ojamajo Doremi (best magical girl show ever :

  12. EASILY the best Precure show by bar. Though I enjoyed Precure Splash Star, that show was far too repetitive.

This one seems to just go nuts with the budget and focus more on the cute factor. Great stuff.

Psgels most favorite anime is mahoushoujo tai.
You will know it’s genre by it’s name.

  15. Hey, what’s wrong with liking mahou shoujo series? There are tons of girls who like shounen and seinen series, so why shouldn’t it be the other way around? ;)

  16. @Psgels: You’re absolutely right. Heck, I met a male adult at Otakon 2009 who likes Princess Tutu (REALLY good anime!)! Plus, I like some magical girl series too (like CardCaptor Sakura, Kamichama Karin, Princess Tutu, and Shugo Chara).

  17. I lol at you and your silliness. Animu fans.

By the way, if PreCure is cheap mahou shoujo, what’s the expensive one?
(And aren’t all mahour shoujo mostly reptitive? Like all other anime…?)
